Gingerbread People

1. 1/2 cup unsalted butter
2. 1/2 cup sugar
3. 1/2 cup molasses
4. 1 egg yolk
5. 2 cups all-purpose flour
6. 1/2 teaspoon salt
7. 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
8. 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
9. 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
10. 1 teaspoon ground cloves
11. 1 teaspoon ginger
12. 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
(Measures yield about 30 cookies)

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C)
2. Cream the margarine and the sugar in a bowl. Stir in the molasses and the egg yolk.
3. In another bowl, mix all the dry ingredients thoroughly: flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, ginger and nutmeg.
4. Blend this dry mixtures into the molasses mixture until smooth.
5. Cover, and chill for at least one hour.
6. On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough out to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into desired shapes with cookie cutters.
7. Place the cookies 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets in your cookie tray. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, until firm.
8. Remove from cookie sheets to cool. Frost or decorate when cool.
